The Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit now has six new sculptures in place throughout the Indiana University East campus.
The sculptures are part of a juried exhibit. The jurors for the exhibit are IU East faculty Ann Kim, associate professor of fine arts, Carrie Longley, assistant professor of fine arts, and Ed Thornburg, art director.

Justin M. Carroll has been passionate about history since he was a child.
That certainly shows in his enthusiasm for teaching at IU East.
Indiana University East maintains a strong enrollment this fall. The campus has a fall headcount enrollment of 3,490 students, who are enrolled in 36,300 credit hours. The head count enrollment represents a 2.6 percent decrease compared to last fall, but the decline reflects a change in the way enrollment figures are calculated, and a large graduating class this past spring.
Bette Davenport, of Richmond, Indiana, knows first-hand the impact scholarships can have for students completing a degree. In recognition of Indiana University East’s mission and to encourage others to give, she is making a $25,000 gift to establish the Bette G. Davenport Alumni Scholarship.

Indiana University East’s School of Business and Economics will offer a new speaker series this fall.
Three experts – Steven Horwitz, P. J. Hill and Zachary Gochenour – will visit campus and share their perspectives on topics ranging from being poor in America to property rights and a look at U.S. immigration about 100 years ago.

Thanks to the tremendous support from the local business communities, economic development corporations and chambers of commerce, we continued to have great success last year for our East-Central Indiana Business Survey. Based on the valuable responses we collected, we had successfully calculated the 2016 value of our IU East Regional Business Confidence Index. Our report had been released on the IU East Business and Economics Research Center (the BERC) website at http://www.iue.edu/business/berc/.

Indiana University East is remembering Dorothy Thorman, a longtime supporter of Wayne County youth and higher education. Thorman passed away August 24, 2017, at Friends Fellowship Community.
Thorman established the Graf Recreation Center in Springwood Hall in remembrance of her parents, John and Corinne Graf, and the John and Corrine Graf Professorship at IU East. Her contributions to IU East were in honor of her parent’s active support of local youth and she felt that education was the best memorial.

Rosalie Aldrich, a faculty member in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been appointed to the John and Corrine Graf Professorship at Indiana University East.
Michelle Malott, executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, said the three-year, renewable professorship recognizes Aldrich’s excellence in scholarly achievement and teaching.

Nine student members of the IU East chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, attended the organization’s 2017 International Convention in Louisville from March 29-April 1.
Students attended presentations, readings, workshops, open mics, and other events at the convention. Most of these events offered a display of outstanding student research and creativity from around the United States and abroad, but famous authors such as science fiction writer Jeff Vandermeer were also featured. The very first SigmaCon event was a hit with IU East students who donned costumes as pirates, vampires, and other assorted characters.

Indiana University East is accepting art entries for the 39th annual Whitewater Valley Art Competition (WVAC). The submission process will be electronic at callforentry.org.
Originating in 1978, the WVAC was founded by Tom Thomas, late associate professor fine of fine 
arts. Thomas taught fine arts at IU East for over 30 years. The WVAC has a history of open judging, allowing the public to be on site when the exhibit entries are excluded or included for the exhibit. In this spirit, digital images of entered works will be projected in an auditorium on the campus of IU East and will be juried by a three-judge panel electronically.
